How Much Does a Media Wall Cost in the UK?

How much does a media wall cost in the UK? The honest answer is that it depends on the size of the wall, the fire you choose and how much bespoke joinery, lighting and finishing you want. As a guide, published UK trade figures for 2026 put a basic media wall at around £1,200 to £2,500, a mid-range build at around £2,500 to £4,500 and a high-end bespoke wall at £5,000 or more. Here is where the money goes, and how to get the look for less.

Media wall cost at a glance

Type of media wall Typical cost What you usually get
Basic £1,200 to £2,500 Simple stud wall, plastered and painted, a standard inset electric fire and a TV recess
Mid-range £2,500 to £4,500 Wider panoramic fire, panelling or feature finishes, LED lighting and shelving
High-end bespoke £5,000 and above Large walls, 2 or 3 sided fires, stone or slate cladding, built-in storage and premium joinery

Figures are typical UK ranges published by trade sources in 2026 and will vary with your room, your location and the finish you choose. Labour rates in London and the South East tend to sit at the top end.

What makes up the cost

The electric fire

The fire is usually the biggest single item after labour. At Burner Hub, media wall electric fires start from around £237 for the compact Flavel Flamonik Rapture, with popular mid-size models such as the ACR PR-1200e and Flavel Proflame 1250 at around £900 to £1,100, and wide panoramic and multi-sided fires from around £1,500 up to £4,500 and more (prices at the time of writing, November 2026). Labour

A typical media wall involves three trades. UK day rates published in 2026 are roughly:

  • Carpenter or joiner: around £200 to £300 a day, usually for 2 to 4 days to frame the wall, form the fire aperture and TV recess, and add shelving.
  • Plasterer: around £180 to £250 a day, usually 1 to 2 days to board and skim.
  • Electrician: around £200 to £300 a day, usually half a day to a day and a half for the fire supply, TV sockets and lighting.

Most builds take around 3 to 6 days in total across the trades, so labour for a mid-range wall commonly comes to around £1,100 to £1,500.

Materials and finishing

Timber, plasterboard, skim and fixings are a relatively small part of the total, often a few hundred pounds. Feature finishes add more: fluted panels, stone or slate cladding, LED strips and downlights, floating shelves and built-in cupboards all push the price up, along with decorating.

Things that can add to the bill

  • Removing or building out a chimney breast
  • New electrical circuits rather than a spur from an existing socket
  • Sound bars, cable management and TV brackets
  • Making good the surrounding walls, skirting and flooring

The ready made alternative: media wall suites

If you want the media wall look without a week of building work, a media wall suite can work out simpler and more predictable. A suite combines the fire, the surround and a space for your television in one finished piece. At the time of writing our suites start from around £1,475 for the Aurora Aries XL, with the full height Celsi S1000, S1250 and S1600 suites from around £2,100 to £2,750. Compare them all in our media wall suites collection.

Running costs

Once it is built, a media wall fire is cheap to enjoy. Most models have a heater of up to around 2kW, which at a typical UK electricity rate of around 25p per kWh costs roughly 50p an hour on full heat, less as the thermostat cycles. The flame effect on its own uses very little power, so you can run the flames for atmosphere for just pennies an evening.

How to keep the cost down

  • Choose the fire first and build the aperture around it, so there is no costly rework.
  • Keep the design simple. A smooth plastered wall with a well chosen fire looks premium on its own.
  • Use an existing wall where you can, rather than removing a chimney breast.
  • Consider a suite if you want a finished look with a known price.
